Bladeboard Innovation Provides a Scalable Solution to Wind Turbine Blade Recycling

Reblade has developed a pioneering recycling process that transforms decommissioned wind turbine blades into a versatile new composite product, offering the renewables industry a genuinely scalable route to circularity for one of its most stubborn end-of-life challenges.

Reblade has developed a pioneering recycling process that transforms decommissioned wind turbine blades into a versatile new composite product, offering the renewables industry a genuinely scalable route to circularity for one of its most stubborn end-of-life challenges.

Branded BladeBoard, Reblade's innovation shreds decommissioned blades and combines them with similar waste materials to create durable composite planks with a wide range of applications, from agricultural fence posts and screening through to benches and decking.

The innvotion behind BladeBoard has been delivered in collaboration with leading renewable energy developer EDF power solutions UK, infrastructure investors Dalmore Capital and Foresight, and Scottish Enterprise, with the partnership working focusing on both the commercial potential of the product and the appetite within the renewable energy industry to find meaningful alternatives to landfill for wind turbine blade material.

It builds on Reblade's earlier work with EDF power solutions UK, which saw decommissioned blades repurposed into shelters for an EV charging station in Dundee, an early proof of concept that end-of-life turbine components could be given a functional, low-carbon second life.

Fiona Lindsay, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Reblade, said: "This collaboration is a powerful demonstration that the wind energy industry can, and must, achieve true circularity. By transforming decommissioned turbine blades into essential assets like community paths and agricultural fencing, we are not just avoiding landfill, we are locking carbon into durable, high-value products that directly benefit the local area. This is the future of sustainable asset management."

Michelle Campbell-Robson, Environmental Manager at EDF power solutions UK, added: "We are proud to be an integral part of this project alongside our investors Dalmore and Foresight Capital, finding innovative solutions to an industry-wide challenge. We are leading the transition to a circular economy by transforming decommissioned wind turbine blades into repurposed structures and valuable composite products."
